EMS Research
In response to the 2001 National EMS Research Agenda’s call to strengthen the scientific foundation of emergency medical services, the National Registry of EMTs established its Research Department in 2004. These efforts laid the groundwork for a dedicated Research Department that now plays a leading role in advancing EMS science and training EMS-prepared doctoral researchers.
The department’s mission is to contribute to the scientific body of out-of-hospital care knowledge, improving the competency, health, safety, and wellness of EMS professionals and the patients they serve. Today, the department’s work is nationally recognized and frequently published in high-impact journals such as Prehospital Emergency Care, Resuscitation, Journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians OPEN, and the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Through research and partnerships, the department continues to lead in shaping the future of EMS.
