EMS Research
In response to the 2001 National EMS Research Agenda’s call to strengthen the scientific foundation of emergency medical services, the National Registry established its Research Department in 2004. These efforts laid the groundwork for a dedicated department that now plays a leading role in advancing EMS science and training EMS prepared doctoral researchers.
The department contributes to the growing scientific body of out-of-hospital care knowledge, supporting improvements in the competency, health, safety, and wellness of EMS professionals and the patients they serve. The work is nationally recognized and frequently published in high-impact journals such as The Journal of the American Medical Association Network OPEN, Prehospital Emergency Care, Resuscitation, Journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians OPEN, and the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Through research and partnerships, the department continues to shape the future of EMS.
