Requirements for regaining National Registry certification depend on different factors. Refer to your clinician levels re-entry pathway for EMR, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic.

If you have a current/valid state license, follow the State Licensed Re-entry Pathway on those pages above.

Examinations

The certification examination is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) that assesses your knowledge of EMS concepts

The state-approved BLS skills competency requirement (if applicable) is a practical skills evaluation. You can check your state’s requirements by contacting your State EMS Office.
You can schedule your certification examination through your National Registry account once your application is approved.

While the National Registry no longer requires a psychomotor examination, your state may mandate a state-approved BLS skills competency requirement. You can find out your state’s requirements and approved testing sites by contacting your State EMS Office.
You can retake the examination after a 15-day waiting period. The number of retakes allowed varies per level. Refer to the Certification Handbook for more specific information for your level.
Examination results are considered valid for 24 months. Click here to read the full policy.
